Megan and the Mixed Up Buckets”

Mrs McLean is getting everything clean and tidy in preparation for the gorillas’ tea party. The master chef, M. Scoffalot, is coming to prepare the food. Mrs McLean asks the children to let her know if her horse Megan, who has a sweet tooth, gets up to mischief. Willard Swindler tries to persuade the audience to buy his sugary selection. Megan steals one of his lollipops and biscuits and runs off. To receive payment Willard and the audience call for Mrs McLean.  Megan develops tooth ache and, later, symptoms of diabetes from eating too many sugary foods and is taken to the vet. Major Disaster, the horse doctor, enlists the help of a group of children to help extract Megan’s tooth. M. Scoffalot arrives to prepare the fruit salad for the gorillas. The bucket of Megan’s urine which is being tested for diabetes, gets mixed up with the clean water for the fruit salad. M. Scoffalot then feeds the unsuspecting Willard fruit salad, containing horse wee. He also blows up a wok full of bananas. It is diagnosed Megan hasn’t developed diabetes though she is persuaded in future to eat less sugary foods and more fruit and vegetables. The play ends with the gorillas tea party. We suggest every child brings in a portion of fruit, to make their own fruit salad back in the classroom

Pirates of the Carrot and Bean”

It is the first day of term at Captain Parrott’s Pirate School.  The audience are the new intake of students. Kate Cutlass, a student teacher and Mrs Higgins a supply teacher, join Captain Parrott’s staff. Unfortunately he can’t read at all well and advertised for help in a private school instead of a pirate school. Captain Parrot is intent on teaching the old skills of plundering and swashbuckling.  Mrs Higgins has different ideas on education.  Captain Parrot wants to keep his students illiterate and innnumerate, so he can keep control and power. He also wants people fed a poor diet so they don’t learn and will be aggressive – all to his advantage.  With the help of a puppet carrot and bean the captain is persuaded to disclose where he has been hiding the healthy food in exchange for being taught how to read. The play ends with a treasure chest of fresh fruit being shared with the children.
